Marijuana and the Brain

Concerned about your child’s potential exposure to marijuana? Speaker Ralph Cantor, a longtime educator, will provide
information on how to create dialog that supports teens to make informed choices crucial to healthy development.
Topics include:
• How to hold an intelligent conversation about drugs with a teen
• Marijuana and our youth today
• Differences between an adolescent and an adult brain
• How drugs act on the brain – dopamine and the mind/body connection
• Immediate dangers – mixing drugs, ingesting marijuana, alcohol, prescriptions

Teen Mental Health Wellness: How Parents Can Help

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents. While most young people are resilient and healthy, family and caregivers play an important role in detecting early crisis signs.
This workshop will discuss common mental health issues for young people, suicide factors and suicide warning signs. Learn how to begin a conversation with your child and about safety planning. Emphasis will be placed on how to get professional help.
